Microsoft has announced the generally availability of SCOM 2025. This version brings new features and improvements, and ensures a future-proof SCOM platform with support extending for at least the next decade.
Introducing SCOM 2025
Managing IT infrastructure is complex, with its many different elements and ever-changing nature. Since its introduction, System Center has been at the forefront of offering solutions to simplify this management.
With SCOM 2025 now released, it introduces updates that enhances flexibility, security, and compatibility with modern infrastructure.
Below, you can find some of the new enhancements included.
Updated support
SCOM 2025 includes full support for Windows Server 2025, allowing for seamless integration with the latest Microsoft server technology.
It has also been updated to support OpenSSL versions 3.1 through 3.3. This ensures secure and compliant cryptographic protocols, meeting modern security standards and improving data protection.
SCOM 2025 also brings support for newer versions of popular web browsers:
- Microsoft Edge: Now supports version 121 and later, including IE compatibility mode for legacy applications.
- Google Chrome: Fully compatible with version 121 and later.
Heterogenous infrastructure management
System Center 2025 (SCVMM, SCDPM, SCOM, SCSM, and SCO) launches alongside Windows Server 2025, providing scalable management for modern infrastructures right away. VMM 2025 now also supports VMs on Azure Stack HCI 23H2 clusters and the latest Linux distributions, with a more seamless VMware-to-Windows VM conversion experience.
Infrastructure modernization
With the General Availability of Azure Arc-enabled SCVMM, you can now leverage Azure services, such as Defender for Cloud and Azure Monitor, for SCVMM-managed VMs. These services, along with Arc capabilities like Hotpatching, provide full compatibility with Windows Server 2025.
Enhanced security
Security is a core focus in System Center 2025, with reduced dependencies on CredSSP and NTLM, and added TLS 1.3 support for secure data transmission. VMM 2025 defaults to Generation 2 VMs for faster, secure booting, while DPM 2025 enables secure passphrase storage in Azure Key Vault.
